Team Overview

General
The People's Republic of China have dominated women's water polo at the Asian Games since it was added to the programme in 2010. The team have claimed all three gold medals on offer, winning every match they have played in the process. In 2018 in Indonesia, their five round-robin victories began with an 11-4 triumph over eventual runners-up Kazakhstan, followed by a 12-8 victory over eventual bronze medallists Japan. They then went on to also beat Indonesia, Thailand, and Hong Kong, China.

The People's Republic of China won gold at the Asian water polo championship in 2022 in Thailand, beating Japan 17-5 in the final.

The Chinese team have featured at each edition of the Olympic Games since their debut in 2008. They finished eighth out of 10 teams at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, with their two group stage wins including an 11-9 defeat of eventual bronze medallists Hungary.

At the world championships, the People's Republic of China won one medal [a silver in Shanghai in 2011] from nine appearances between 2005 and 2023. They lost all three of their group stage matches at the 2023 World Championships, but ended the tournament on a high after classification round victories over Kazakhstan [16-6] and Japan [18-10] saw them finish in 13th place. Also among their world-level achievements is a World League Super Final triumph in 2013, when they interrupted the United States of America's dominance of the tournament.
