Team Overview

General
The Republic of Korea have won the most medals of any men's volleyball team at the Asian Games, with 14 podium finishes from 15 appearances. The only time they have competed and not taken a medal home was on their debut in 1962. Since then their tally includes three golds [1978, 2002, 2006], and at the 2018 Games in Indonesia they claimed their seventh silver medal.

At Indonesia 2018, the Republic of Korea won their pool matches against Chinese Taipei and Nepal to advance to a round of 16 tie against Pakistan, which they came through as 3-0 victors. They also eased past hosts Indonesia 3-0 at the quarterfinal stage, before edging a rematch with Chinese Taipei 3-2 in the semifinals. They met a dominant Iranian team in the final, however, and had to settle for silver after losing 3-0.

The Korean team are among the most successful sides at the Asian championship, and won four titles between 1989 and 2003. However, they reached the final only once [in 2013] in their nine appearances from 2005 to 2021. They lost the third place play-off to Japan at the 2019 edition of the tournament, and were ranked eighth in 2021. The team finished as runners-up behind the Islamic Republic of Iran at the inaugural Asian Cup in 2008, and took home their sole Asian Cup title at the 2014 edition, defeating India in straight sets. They lost the third place play-off to Bahrain in 2022.

On the world stage, the Republic of Korea have made eight appearances at the Olympic Games, but none since 2000. The team last competed at the world championship in 2014, while they were relegated from the Nations League after the inaugural edition in 2018. They managed a third-place finish as hosts of the 2022 Challenger Cup.
