Team United Arab Emirates - Profile
NOC Overview
United Arab Emirates first appeared at the Asian Games in 1978 and has won at least one medal at each edition since 1994. Only one Emirati athlete has won more than one Asian Games gold medal, equestrian Rashid Bin Mohd Al Maktoum, who triumphed in both the team and individual endurance events at the 2006 Games in Doha.
When ju-jitsu made its debut at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, United Arab Emirates led the sport's medal table with nine podium finishes. That haul included gold medals for Hamad Nawad in the 56kg category after he overcame compatriot Khalid Alblooshi in the final, and Faisal Al Kutbi who triumphed in the 94kg class. Ju-jitsu provided the NOC's only female medallist in Indonesia as well. Mahra Al Hinaai lost the final of the women's 49kg category to Cambodia's Jessa Khan to take silver the day after her 17th birthday, making her the NOC's youngest medallist in Indonesia.
Jet skier Ali Allanjawi also returned one gold and one silver to help United Arab Emirates to a record medal tally of 14 in Indonesia, surpassing its previous best of 10 from 2006. In addition, there were bronze medals for the Emirati men's football team, skeet shooter Saif Bin Futais, and judoka Victor Scvortov. In athletics, women's 10,000m runner Alia Saeed Mohammed finished fourth, failing to defend her gold medal in the event from Incheon in 2014. Alia Saeed is the NOC's only female gold medallist at the Games to date.
Tenpin bowling remains the most successful sport for the NOC in terms of total medals won, with Emirati bowlers claiming 11 medals. Six of those, two silver and four bronze, were won by Mohamed Al Qubaisi across three editions of the Games between 1994 and 2002. No other Emirati athlete has won more than four medals at the Games.
