Team Overview

General
Since Kazakhstan's debut in 1994, the team have competed at every Asian Games with the exception of the 2002 edition. They came closest to winning a medal at the 1994 Games in Hiroshima, where they lost to the People's Republic of China in the semifinals and to the Republic of Korea in the bronze medal match.

In 2018 in Indonesia, the Kazakhstani team lost their two group matches to Myanmar [3-1] and Japan [3-2]. They were then beaten by Kyrgyzstan in the first classification round, before posting their only win of the Games against Mongolia, 3-0, in the 17th place play-off. Their highest ranking at the Asian Games this century is a seventh-place finish at the 2006 Games in Doha.

Kazakhstan produced their best performance at the Asian championship for 24 years in 2017, finishing as runners-up in Indonesia. Their impressive tournament included victories over Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals and the Republic of Korea at the semifinal stage, before Japan proved too strong in the final and prevailed 3-1. Kazakhstan were also runners-up at the 1993 Asian Championship.

On the world stage, Kazakhstan competed at the world championships in 2002 and 2006, losing all eight of their group matches across the two tournaments. The team are yet to feature at the Nations League, but did participate in three consecutive editions of its predecessor, the World League, between 2015 and 2017, placing outside the top 25 on each occasion. The Kazakhstani team finished fifth and joint-last at the inaugural Challenger Cup in 2018.
