Bahrain are making their first Asian Games appearance since 2006, and their fourth in total after they also competed in 1978 and 1986. At the 2006 Games in Doha they won six out of six matches across two group rounds and progressed to the quarterfinals, where they were defeated 3-0 by hosts Qatar. They lost to the Iranian and Kazakhstani teams in the classification round to place eighth overall.

In 2021 the Bahraini team returned to the Asian championship, having missed the previous two editions of the tournament. They got off to a strong start, beating India 3-0 in their opening match, but then suffered defeat in their other two pool matches to Japan and Qatar. In the classification round they defeated Uzbekistan, Kuwait, and Kazakhstan, but lost a rematch with the Indian team 3-2 in the ninth place match and finished 10th overall.

Bahrain claimed bronze on their debut appearance at the Asian Cup in 2022. After advancing through two pool phases, the Bahraini team recovered from a semifinal loss to Japan to defeat the Republic of Korea 3-0 in the third place play-off.
