Team Overview

General
The People's Republic of China's only podium finish at the Asian Games is a silver medal from the 2006 Games in Doha, where they lost to the Republic of Korea in the final. The 19th Asian Games Hangzhou marks the team's ninth appearance at the Games and sees them return after they did not compete in 2018. They finished fifth at their two most recent appearances in 2010 and 2014.

In 2018 the People's Republic of China made their debut at the World Cup. They progressed from the group stage after draws with England and Ireland and a defeat to Australia. Their campaign ended in the first knockout round following a 1-0 loss to France, and overall they ranked 10th out of 16 teams. The team's only appearance at the Olympic Games came as hosts of Beijing 2008, where they finished 11th.

The Chinese team won two medals in nine Asia Cup appearances between 1982 and 2017. They claimed bronze at the inaugural event in 1982 and again in 2009, when they overcame hosts Malaysia in the bronze medal match.
