Team Overview

General
Saudi Arabia have competed in seven of the 10 men's handball tournaments to have taken place at the Asian Games. The team have finished on the podium once, securing bronze in 1990 with three victories in a six-team round-robin tournament. Since then, the closest they have come to a medal is a fourth-place finish at the 2010 Games in Guangzhou, where they were defeated 27-20 by Japan in the bronze medal match.

At the 2018 Games they progressed from the preliminary round with victories over Indonesia and Hong Kong, China. Drawn alongside Japan, Qatar, and Iraq in Group 1 of the main round, the Saudis recorded two draws and a defeat before losing to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the fifth-place classification match.

The Saudi Arabian team participated in the inaugural Asian championship in 1977, and have won four bronze medals in 14 further appearances since then. Their most recent podium finish came at the 2022 edition, which the Saudis hosted in Dammam.

On the global stage, Saudi Arabia made their debut at the world championship in 1997. They competed at the tournament another nine times between 1999 and 2023, achieving a highest placing of 19th in both 2003 and 2013.
