Team Overview

General
Hong Kong, China have taken part in the men's football competition at each edition of the Asian Games since 1990. They have never progressed past the quarterfinals at the Games, and the last time they reached that stage of the competition was back at the 1958 Games in Tokyo.

Having failed to advance from the group stage between 1990 and 2006, the team have seen an upturn in results at the three most recent editions of the Asian Games. In 2010 the team qualified for the first knockout round, where they were eliminated by Oman, while at the 2014 Games they again reached the knockout stage but were beaten in the round of 16 by hosts and eventual champions the Republic of Korea. At Indonesia 2018, the team placed third in Group A behind Palestine and hosts Indonesia to qualify for the knockout rounds, where they were defeated 3-0 by Uzbekistan in the round of 16.

An U23 Hong Kong, China side claimed victory as hosts of the 2009 East Asian Games, defeating Japan on penalties in the final.
