Team Overview

General
The Islamic Republic of Iran have won four medals in six appearances in men's team sabre at the Asian Games, including gold at the inaugural tournament in 1974 in Tehran. They were the beaten finallists at Incheon 2014 and Indonesia 2018, losing to the Republic of Korea on both occasions, and they also claimed bronze at the 1998 Games in Bangkok.

The Iranian team made their Olympic debut at the 1976 Games. They lost both of their matches in Round 1 in Montreal and did not progress to the knockout stages. They did not compete at the Games again until Tokyo 2020 where they lost to Italy in the quarterfinals.

The Islamic Republic of Iran competed at the world championships for the first time in 1973, and they have been regular participants at the tournament since the turn of the century. They came closest to a medal at the 2016 edition in Rio de Janeiro. Having reached the semifinals, they were beaten by Hungary and then lost to Romania in the third place match. Since 2003 the Iranians have finished on the podium 13 times at the Asian championships, winning six silver medals and seven bronze medals. Of the six occasions they finished runners-up [which all came between 2013 and 2023], they lost to the Republic of Korea in the final five times and the People's Republic of China once.
