Team Overview

General
Chinese Taipei were silver medallists at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, where they lost 5-3 in the final to nine-time champions the Republic of Korea. They had beaten India and the People's Republic of China on their way to a first Asian Games gold medal match since 2002, but their wait for a first title continued. They also won silver in 1990 and 2002, and bronze in 2006.

The Chinese Taipei team's most notable result probably came at the 2019 World Championships in 's-Hertogenbosch, where they overcame the Republic of Korea 6-2 in the final to claim their first world title. Their run through the knockout rounds was impressive, beating France and Belarus without dropping a set before defeating the People's Republic of China 5-1 in the semifinal to set up their historic win in the final. It was their third world championship medal, following silver in 2007 and bronze in 2017.

Chinese Taipei have two Olympic medals. They claimed bronze at Athens 2004, and also finished third at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. At Tokyo 2020, they lost out to Germany in the first knockout round.

At the Asian championships, Chinese Taipei won silver in both 2017 and 2013, finishing as runners-up to the Republic of Korea on both occasions.
