General
POSTPONING RETIREMENT
In 2017 doctors advised him to retire from competitive archery because of his shoulder issues. He decided to continue with the aim of competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he went on to win a team gold medal. "In 2017 suddenly I was not able to draw a bow during a national team training camp. It was difficult to be told I should retire. My dream was just to be at the 2020 Olympic Games, not win gold. I had endured shoulder pain for three years for the 2020 Olympics, so why couldn't I endure it one more year? I managed to accept the postponement of the Games to 2021, and found I had the energy to keep going." (donga, 27 Jul 2021, 12 Apr 2020; chosun, 25 Mar 2020)

OTHER ROLES
He served as a representative on the World Archery athletes' committee from 2015 until 2019. (worldarchery, 31 Dec 2019; mooye, 27 Dec 2016; english, 30 Jul 2015)
