Team Pakistan - Profile
NOC Overview
After missing the inaugural Asian Games in 1951, Pakistan has competed in every edition since making its debut in 1954.
The men's hockey tournament has been a great source of medals for Pakistan with its team achieving a podium finish at 14 of the 16 editions since the sport was first contested in 1958. The Pakistan men's hockey team has claimed eight titles at the Asian Games, more than any other nation, including four consecutive gold medals between 1970 and 1982.
Munir Sadiq sailed into the record books in 1998, as his silver medal in the open enterprise class made him the first sailor to win five medals in the Asian Games. He had previously won three gold medals in the enterprise class in 1978, 1986 and 1990, as well as a silver in the same class in 1994.
In 2018 in Indonesia, Pakistan sunk to its worst performance at a single edition of the Asian Games. A delegation of over 250 athletes returned home with just four medals - all bronze. The NOC's men's teams provided medals in the squash competition and kabaddi tournament, while the two remaining bronze medals were claimed by Arshad Nadeem in the men's javelin throw and karateka Nargis Hameedullah in the women's +68kg kumite category.
