Team Oman - Profile
NOC Overview
Oman has appeared at every edition of the Asian Games since making its debut in 1982. All four of its Asian Games medals have come in the sprint disciplines of athletics.
Mohammed Al Malki won Oman's first medal when he claimed bronze in the men's 400m at the 1986 Games. Four years later he won the same event to become the NOC's first gold medallist and only multi-medallist to date at the Games. Since Al Malki's achievements, Oman has added two more bronze medals to its collection - in the men's 4x100m relay in 1998 and Barakat Al-Harthi's third place in the men's 100m in 2010.
At the 2018 Games in Indonesia, the men's 49er sailing team of Waleed Al-Kindi and Musab Al Hadi came closest to claiming another podium finish for Oman. They began the final race of the series in second place, three points ahead of the fourth-ranked Indian team, but were overtaken by the Korean and Indian teams to finish fourth and leave Indonesia empty-handed.
Also in Indonesia, the men's beach volleyball pairing of Nouh Al Jalaboubi and Mazin Sulaiman Zahran Al Hasmi finished ranked equal fifth, while sprinter Mohammed Obaid Al Saadi finished seventh in the final of the men's 200m event. The NOC's youngest competitor at the 2018 Games was 15-year-old sailor Abdulmalik Gharib Juma Al Hinai, who finished ninth in the open Laser 4.7 class.
