NOC Overview
Lao People's Democratic Republic has appeared at every Asian Games since 1990, which was the year boxer Vongkot Chinda won the NOC's first medal at the Games with bronze in the men's lightweight division.
No Lao athlete has yet managed to win an Asian Games gold medal, although the NOC has claimed multiple podium finishes in wushu, pencak silat, and sepaktakraw. Five representatives of Lao People's Democratic Republic have won two medals at the Games - female sepaktakraw players Koy Xayavong, Nouanedam Volabouth and Sonsavanh Keosoulya, and male wushu athletes Phoxay Aphaylath and Phouk Khamsounthone.
In Indonesia in 2018, Lao People's Democratic Republic achieved its highest medal total [five] at a single Games, surpassing its three in Incheon in 2014. This included silver medals for Nong Oy Vongphakdy in pencak silat in the women's tanding 60kg category, and the men's sepaktakraw team doubles squad. The three bronze medals were won by pencak silat athletes Bo Thammavongsa [men's tanding 55kg] and Olathay Sounthavong [women's tanding 55kg], and the women's sepaktakraw quadrant team.
