Team Kazakhstan - Profile
NOC Overview
Kazakhstan has been represented at every edition of the Asian Games since it made its first appearance in 1994. Its most successful sports at the Games have been canoe sprint, athletics and shooting.
Male sprint paddler Konstantin Negodyayev is the Kazakhstani athlete with the most gold medals [five] at the Asian Games. His three titles at the 1994 Games was also the most gold medals for the NOC at a single edition until swimmer Dmitriy Balandin also claimed three golds in 2014 in Incheon.
Women's shooter Olga Dovgun has won more medals than any other Kazakhstani. Dovgun is one of only three women to have won 13 medals of any colour at the Asian Games, a record she shares with Chinese shooter Zhang Qiuping and Chinese swimmer Tang Yi. However, Dovgun's three gold medals for Kazakhstan is surpassed by her compatriot Olga Rypakova, who claimed a fourth athletics gold in 2018. Rypakova won three consecutive golds in triple jump between 2010 and 2018, having previously been victorious in heptathlon at the 2006 Games.
Kazakhstan won 76 medals at the 2018 Games, nine short of its highest total of 85 in 2006, and its 15 gold medals in Indonesia was its lowest tally at a single edition. Road cyclist Alexey Lutsenko and rhythmic gymnast Alina Adilkhanova were Kazakhstan's only multiple gold medallists in 2018, with two each.
In Indonesia, Adilkhanova was part of the triumphant women's all-around team alongside Dayana Abdirbekova and Adilya Tlekenova - all three were age 16 and became Kazakhstan's youngest female Asian Games gold medallists of all time. Tlekenova was the youngest of the three at age 16 years and 41 days, followed by Abdirbekova [16 years, 139 days] and Adilkhanova [16 years, 335 days]. Adilkhanova's second gold in 2018 came the very next day in the individual all-around event, making her Kazakhstan's youngest female Asian Games gold medallist of all time in an individual event.
