Team Chinese Taipei - Profile
NOC Overview
Chinese Taipei first appeared at the Asian Games in 1954, and has competed at all but five editions of the tournament since then.
At the 2018 Games in Indonesia, tennis player Latisha Chan became the most decorated Chinese Taipei athlete at the Asian Games when she won an eighth career medal by claiming silver in the women's doubles, alongside partner Chan Hao Ching. Among Chan's total are four gold medals from the women's team events in 2006 and 2014, and both the women's and mixed doubles in 2010. Only tenpin bowler Chou Miao Lin, who claimed her titles over the 1994 and 1998 Games, can match Chan's four gold medals.
In 2018 table tennis player Chuang Chih Yuan became the fourth male athlete from Chinese Taipei to reach seven Asian Games medals through his bronze in the men's team event. Shooter Wu Tao-Yuan was the first to win seven medals for the NOC, including three gold, between 1958 and 1970, a figure that was later matched by soft tennis players Liau Nan Kai and Li Chia Hung, and then table tennis player Chuang.
Also in Indonesia, Tai Tzu Ying won Chinese Taipei's first Asian Games badminton gold medal when she beat India's PV Sindhu in the women's singles final, while the women's kabbadi team won the NOC's first medal [bronze] in the sport. Chinese Taipei's most decorated athletes in 2018 were 16 dragon boat racers, who each won two gold [500, 1000m] and one silver [200m] in the sport.
