Team Overview

General
The People's Republic of China won gold at the first Asian Games to feature 3x3 basketball in 2018 in Indonesia, where U23 teams competed. They defeated the Islamic Republic of Iran in the quarterfinals and overcame Chinese Taipei at the semifinal stage to set up a final against Japan, who they beat 21-10 to claim gold.

In 2022 the Chinese team managed their first top-four finish at the U23 World Cup. They won all four of their matches in the pool phase before defeating Hungary in the quarterfinals. Their progression was halted by the United States of America in the semifinals and they ultimately finished fourth following a loss to the Netherlands in the third place play-off. Their two previous appearances at the U23 World Cup saw them place seventh [2019] and 12th [2018].

At senior level, the Chinese women won their first Asia Cup title in 2022 with a 14-10 victory over Australia in the final. They also finished as runners-up in 2018 and in third place in 2017 and 2023 at the tournament.

The People's Republic of China won five of their seven pool games at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, only losing to eventual gold medallists the United States of America and eventual silver medallists the ROC. After a quarterfinal win over Italy, they lost to the ROC again in the semifinals to set up a bronze medal game with France. They overcame their French opponents 16-14 to finish on the podium on their Olympic debut.

The senior team won gold at the 2019 World Cup in the Netherlands, which was their first podium finish at the senior World Cup in five appearances since 2014. They followed that up with a third-place finish at the 2022 World Cup in Antwerp.
