She decided to give up her Canadian passport to compete for Hong Kong, China. "To make the change in my final year in high school to stay in Hong Kong was pretty big. I was planning to move to Canada for university because that was the normal track at school - either US or Canada, some go to the UK as well. I would have to live in Canada for two years in order to get it back. My coach at the time convinced me to stay. He said I had a lot of potential and should continue representing Hong Kong - I was sold. I was lucky because I got [the passport] in time for the Asian Games [in 2018].
