Her older sister Nurliyana has represented Malaysia in sailing. She won gold alongside Nur Shazrin in the team Laser Radial event at the 2015 South East Asian Games in Singapore. Her other sisters Nur Afiqah, Nur Lia Ameera, and Nur Syahirah have also been involved in sailing. Nur Afiqah has worked as a coach in Pahang, Malaysia, while Nur Lia Ameera and Nur Syahirah have competed in the Optimist class at national level. She took up sailing at age eight in Johor, Malaysia. She began focusing on the Laser Radial class at age 17. "When I was asked to join the Laser Radial, I was told to put on weight.
