Team Overview

General
Malaysia made their debut at the Asian Games in 2002 in Busan, where they were ranked fifth out of six teams. They did not participate at Doha 2006, but have competed at each edition of the Games since. They are yet to reach the knockout stages of the tournament and particularly struggled at the 2018 Games in Indonesia, losing all five of their group matches and finishing ranked 11th out of 11 teams.

Malaysia participated at the inaugural World Cup [international format] in 2004, finishing bottom of their group after losing all three matches. They improved at the 2007 edition, advancing from a group containing Japan, Turkmenistan, and the West Indies, before a quarterfinal defeat to eventual champions India. The Malaysian team reached the semifinals of the most recent tournament in 2019, only to lose to Iraq, and were then beaten by Chinese Taipei in the third place match.
