His father Toshtemir Muhammadiev represented Uzbekistan in kurash and won a gold medal at the 1999 World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. His brothers Utkirbek and Sherkhon have also represented Uzbekistan in judo. Utkirbek won a bronze medal in the 100kg category at the 2021 World Junior Championships in Olbia, Italy, and Sherkhon claimed a bronze medal in the 81kg category at the 2015 World Cadet Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. "We have a family interest in sports. My brother studied at the school of Olympic reserve, my father was a champion, that's why I fell in love with sports from childhood. At first everything was very difficult for me. I did not understand anything in judo, and for two weeks I only learned how to tie a belt. I was constantly losing and was very upset. The coach even warned me that he would enrol me in taekwondo or karate. And then I won for the first time, I won the republican tournament - and motivation appeared. I began to achieve success."
