Team Overview

General
The Republic of Korea arrive in Hangzhou having won bronze at the last three Asian Games. The team have appeared at every Games to feature women's football, but had to wait until 2010 to claim their first medal with a third place play-off victory over the People's Republic of China. They went on to win the next two bronze medal matches against Vietnam [2014] and Chinese Taipei [2018].

At the 2018 Games, they topped their group with wins over Chinese Taipei [2-1], Maldives [8-0], and hosts Indonesia [12-0]. In the quarterfinals they eased past Hong Kong, China 5-0, but were denied a place in the final after conceding a late own goal against eventual gold medallists Japan in the semifinals. They bounced back with a second victory over the Chinese Taipei team [4-0] to once again secure the third spot on the podium.

The team reached their first Asian Cup final in 2022 in India. Unbeaten in the group stage, they went on to defeat Australia and the Philippines in the knockout rounds to set up a final against the People's Republic of China. The Republic of Korea led 2-0 at half-time, but had their hearts broken when the Chinese side completed a 3-2 comeback in stoppage time. Their only other top-three finish at the Asian Cup was in 2003 when they placed third.

The Republic of Korea made three appearances at the World Cup between 2003 and 2019, with a round of 16 appearance in 2015 representing their best performance in that period. They qualified for the 2023 World Cup with their performance at the 2022 Asian Cup.
