Team Overview

General
Thailand have competed at 15 consecutive Asian Games since debuting in 1962, but they are yet to win a medal. They have, however, come close to the podium on several occasions, losing four bronze medal matches. They were beaten in the third place play-off by the Republic of Korea in both 1990 and 2002, and by the People's Republic of China and Iraq in 1998 and 2014, respectively.

The team finished third in a group containing Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, and Qatar at the 2018 Games in Indonesia, and exited the competition as the lowest ranked third-placed team.

Thailand qualified for the quarterfinals of the AFC U23 championship for the first time as hosts in 2020. Following one win, one draw, and one defeat in the group stage, they were beaten 1-0 by Saudi Arabia in the last eight. At the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan, they ended the group stage with an identical points total to 2020, but this time it was not enough to see them into the knockout rounds.

The team have dominated the South East Asian Games for long periods, claiming seven of the 12 titles on offer since the turn of the century. In 2017 the Thais clinched their most recent title by defeating hosts Malaysia 1-0. However, they failed to advance from the group stage in 2019, and were losing finalists at the last two tournaments. They were defeated 5-2 by Indonesia after extra time in 2023 in Cambodia after being beaten at the 2021 Games by hosts Vietnam, 1-0.

The Thai team have made two appearances at the Olympic Games. They lost to Great Britain in the first round at the 1956 Games in Melbourne and finished bottom of their group in Mexico City in 1968.
