Team Overview

General
Hong Kong, China have won five medals in eight appearances at the Asian Games. They secured bronze on debut in 1990, and then claimed three consecutive bronze medals between 2006 and 2014 after falling to defeat against the People's Republic of China in the semifinals on all three occasions. They avoided the Chinese team at Indonesia 2018, and reached the final after beating Japan in the last four. However, they lost to the Republic of Korea in the gold medal match and had to settle for silver.

The Hong Kong, China team were defeated by ROC in the quarterfinals at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. It was the team's fourth appearance at the Games and their first since Seoul 1988.

Hong Kong, China won their first world championship medal in 2023 in Milan. Having lost to Japan in the semifinals, they bounced back to defeat the United States of America in the third place match. At the Asian championships, the team won consecutive bronze medals in 2003 and 2004. Their next podium finish, another bronze, did not come until 2017, and in 2018 they won their first silver medal after losing to the Republic of Korea in the final. After back-to-back bronze medals in 2019 and 2022, the team finished fourth in 2023 and missed the podium.
