She was involved in a motorcycle accident and sustained multiple broken fingers when she was in junior high school. (Tribun Jambi Facebook page, 27 May 2022)

:

She began paddling when she was a teenager at Sipin Lake in Jambi, Indonesia. (Tribun Jambi Facebook page, 27 May 2022; jambi.tribunnews, 17 May 2022)

:

She was encouraged to take up the sport while she was recovering from a motorcycle accident and unable to attend school. "My father said, 'You should row at Sipin Lake [in Jambi, Indonesia] and begin training for competitive sport'. So, before that, I was a sprinter and had represented my school at various national level tournaments. But I didn't want to continue. Lake Sipin was actually my playground because it was near my house, so I was able to row as a child. Then my father took me to a training site and somehow I was eventually selected to join the provincial team." (Tribun Jambi Facebook page, 27 May 2022)

:

She trains at Jatiluhur Dam in Purwakarta, Indonesia. Her sessions include paddling up to 30 kilometres, and she also does strength work at the gym. (jambi.tribunnews, 27 May 2022)

Additional Information

General
HEIGHT A BARRIER
She is 152cm tall, and her height was initially a barrier to her joining the national training programme in Indonesia. "I remember a certain height was one of the selection criteria to join the national training programme back then. So it was almost impossible for me to be selected. It was disappointing too because I knew I had more gold medals than those who were selected. But when the 2015 South East Asian Games was coming, I was the top seed in the women's canoe sprint, so I was called. From time to time, even recently [speaking in 2022], when I competed overseas, people kept asking if I was still at school because I was way smaller and shorter from the other female canoeists. I would casually say, 'Yes, kind of', and then their jaw would drop after reading my past results." (Tribun Jambi Facebook page, 27 May 2022)
