She began playing bridge at age 10. In 1985 she took a break from work and started focusing on the sport. "I became seriously interested in the game around 1985. I had just stopped working and I started playing bridge with a group of players who were way better than me. I got involved in high and duplicate bridge, and met a few professional players playing for the country who told me that I had the potential to go professional. Motivated by their comments, I started playing ladies bridge. I played my first world championship in 1987." She is a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, and chairperson of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in New Delhi, India. "Art, also, I am very passionate about. I have no background in art, but I started collecting to decorate my private residence and became very enthused. Once the house was full, I was just putting the work into storage, and that didn't feel right. My husband and I have a lot of philanthropic projects, and I thought, well, an art museum is also an act of philanthropy, let's do it. We are trying to build an interest for art among the people from a very nascent level. India has had such a rich cultural heritage. I think we need to revive it."
