Team Overview

General
Thailand first appeared at the Asian Games as host nation in 1978 when they finished fourth out of five teams. They did not compete again until 1990, but have only missed the 2002 edition of the Games since then.

In 2014 in Incheon, the Thailand team's only victory came against Mongolia in their final classification match. Four years later at the 2018 Games, Thailand posted wins against Hong Kong, China and Mongolia in the group stage, as well as losses to the People's Republic of China and Japan. This set up a quarterfinal against the Unified Korea team, who proved too strong for Thailand and won the match 106-63. A classification match victory against Mongolia was followed by a loss to Kazakhstan, and Thailand ended the tournament in sixth place.

Thailand have competed regularly at the Asia Cup [formerly the Asia championship] since 1968. They have won one medal in that time, a bronze in 1972. They finished fifth in 2015 but have not featured at the tournament since then.

Thailand finished on the podium at six of the South East Asian Games basketball tournaments that took place between 2007 and 2019. They claimed gold in 2011 and 2013.
