Team Overview

General
Thailand returned to the Asian Games in 2018 after a 20-year absence. They made seven appearances in the men's basketball tournament in the 20th century, and won their only medal in 1966 when they claimed silver in Bangkok after a gold medal match defeat to Israel.

The team's appearance at the 2018 Games in Indonesia was the first time they had competed at the Asian Games without being hosts since 1962. They only managed one win from three group stage games in 2018, edging Mongolia 87-86, and finished the tournament ranked 12th out of 13 teams.

The Thai team have made 19 appearances at the Asia Cup, but only two of those have come this century and they have not competed at the tournament since 2013. However, they have regularly made the podium at the South East Asian Games in recent years, winning four silver medals and two bronze medals at the event between 2003 and 2022.

Thailand's only participation at the Olympic Games was in 1956 in Melbourne, where they placed 15th of 15 teams.
