Additional Information

General
PARTNERSHIP
He began playing alongside mixed doubles partner Arisa Higashino in 2012. "Being good friends is always the best. Communicating on and off the court and getting to know each other is the key to long-lasting success, and I always think that it is the best way to improve as a pair. The trick is that the two of us are on good terms." (news, 03 Feb 2022)

PROMOTING MIXED DOUBLES
He and Arisa Higashino became the first Japanese badminton players to win an Olympic medal in mixed doubles at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. "I hope that 'winning a medal in badminton' will become 'winning a medal in mixed doubles'. I want to make us more famous and increase the value of the event. I think there are many people who think that mixed doubles is still behind [compared to singles and men's and women's doubles]. I think it would be great if the exposure of the mixed doubles event could be increased." (news, 03 Feb 2022)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
In February 2021 he launched the online community 'BADRISE' in order to share his experiences as a badminton player and promote the sport to children in Japan. "As a player, I want to dig deep into what I felt and experienced while competing internationally as well as nationally." (hochi, 15 Feb 2021; community, 15 Feb 2021)
