He joined the Lebanese Army after being told that he could be paid for playing sport if he was good enough. He had always wanted to be a professional footballer as a child and, keen to demonstrate his sporting prowess, he signed up for an army athletics competition and finished sixth in the 200m against more experienced athletes. His performance attracted the attention of Lebanese Army athletics coach Georges Assaf and he decided to focus on athletics instead of football. (thenationalnews, 15 Jun 2021)
