He joined the Lebanese Army after being told that he could be paid for playing sport if he was good enough. He had always wanted to be a professional footballer as a child and, keen to demonstrate his sporting prowess, he signed up for an army athletics competition and finished sixth in the 200m against more experienced athletes. His performance attracted the attention of Lebanese Army athletics coach Georges Assaf and he decided to focus on athletics instead of football. (thenationalnews, 15 Jun 2021)

BORROWED SPEED SUIT
At the 2019 Asian Championships in Doha, Qatar, he competed in a borrowed speed suit. It had originally been worn by US sprinter Justin Gatlin, who won gold in the 100m at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. He admits that he would welcome greater support from the Lebanese government. "Other governments help their athletes with support and bring in professional coaches or athletes to compete against. Education could also be so much better here. Sometimes I feel really disappointed. You feel like, 'Why am I doing this? I can't reach the elite level if I am still doing this'. But I love the sport. I love doing what I am doing now." (thenationalnews, 15 Jun 2021)

SERVING IN THE ARMY
He joined the Lebanese Army in 2010. "I joined the army for two reasons. Firstly to help my family, and secondly because I knew that the army took sports seriously. When I joined the army in 2010, I was forced to stop school. I worked as a full-time soldier for two years, but I didn't forget my main goal which was to do sports."
