He took up cross-country running in 2015 while serving for the Indian Army, and moved on to distance running a year later. In 2017 he began practising steeplechase after Army coach Amrish Kumar spotted Sable trying to clear the hurdles. (olympicchannel, 16 Apr 2020; hindustantimes, 14 Dec 2019)

He used to run six kilometres a day to get to school as a child. His primary school teacher Babasaheb Taware noticed Sable's talent and took him to a school athletic meet for a 1000m race, where Sable came first.
