Team Overview

General
Japan won gold at the inaugural Asian Games women's team recurve tournament in 1978 in Bangkok, which remains their only Asian Games title. They have claimed bronze three times since then, including at the two most recent editions of the Games in 2014 and 2018.

At the 2018 Games, the Japanese team defeated Bangladesh and hosts Indonesia in the first two knockout rounds before eventual champions the Republic of Korea proved too strong in the semifinals and prevailed 6-2. They recovered to beat the People's Republic of China in the bronze medal match. In Incheon in 2014, their progress was stopped by the Chinese team in the semifinals before they won the bronze medal match against India.

At the Olympic Games, Japan's only medal [bronze] came at the 2012 Games in London. The team were defeated by Belarus in the quarterfinals when they hosted the 2020 Games in Tokyo. They have two silver medals from the world championships [2003, 2009], and lost in the last 16 to Mexico at the 2023 edition of the tournament.

The Japanese team's most successful spell at the Asian championships was between 2007 and 2013, when they won back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2011 as well as a silver medal [2007] and a bronze [2013].
