Team Overview

General
In 2018 the People's Republic of China failed to finish on the podium at the Asian Games for the first time in nine appearances since 1982. They were defeated by Chinese Taipei in the semifinals, 5-3, before also losing in the bronze medal match to Japan, 6-2.

Although they have eight total medals, the Chinese team have only claimed Asian Games gold once, in 1994 in Hiroshima. Among their five silver medals, they claimed three consecutively between 2006 and 2014, losing the final to the Republic of Korea on all three occasions.

The People's Republic of China have competed at all nine editions of the Olympic Games since 1988. They have won four silver medals in that time, losing the gold medal to the Republic of Korea on each occasion. At Tokyo 2020, they lost in the first knockout round to Belarus. The team have not won a world championship medal since their maiden world title in 2001, and lost to Mexico in the quarterfinals at the 2023 World Championships.

The Chinese team were beaten by the Republic of Korea in the final at the 2019 Asian Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
