Team Overview

General
Japan claimed gold at the 1978 Asian Games, the first to feature men's team recurve, and a trio of silver medals from 1986 to 1994, but they have not finished on the podium since. At the 2018 Games in Indonesia, the Japanese team were beaten 6-0 by eventual champions Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.

As hosts of the 2020 Olympic Games, Japan won their first Olympic medal on their sixth appearance. They narrowly lost to eventual champions the Republic of Korea in the semifinals before triumphing in another tight encounter against the Netherlands in the bronze medal match.

The Japanese team returned to the world championship podium in 2023 having not won a medal at the tournament since 2009. At the 2023 edition in Germany, they lost a shoot-off to Turkiye in the semifinals, then overcame Italy 6-2 in the third place play-off.
