General
OLYMPIC DISAPPOINTMENT
He says he struggled to get over his third-round defeat at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "The Tokyo loss was a shocker. I had high expectations, and it feels worse knowing that you could have done better. I took a break of two months and I did not touch my bow. I went on holidays to Ladakh [in India] and Maldives. It was all to get over the Olympics loss. But the loss lingered on. It took me three months to get over it. Once I was over the loss, I started training again. I did high-altitude training in Shillong [in India] for two months. The focus was more on running, to improve my endurance, and core training as it is very important in archery. I was all alone. It was so peaceful." (tribuneindia, 06 Oct 2022)

WIFE'S INFLUENCE
His wife Deepika Kumari has also represented India in archery. The pair had planned to get married following the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo but brought their wedding forward following the postponement of the Games until 2021. "We keep a very close eye on each other's performance - be it during matches or even during practice sessions. It always helps when you can discuss what has gone right or wrong with someone you are close to. But I always get very tense when Deepika is shooting in competitions. At times, it is too difficult to watch." (worldarchery, 14 Aug 2020; firstpost, 23 Jul 2019)
