Team Overview

General
The People's Republic of China won gold at the inaugural men's 3x3 basketball Asian Games tournament in 2018, when U23 teams competed. Unbeaten in four pool games in Indonesia, they then defeated Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Iran to set up a final against the Republic of Korea. In a thrilling gold medal game, the Chinese team edged their Korean opponents 19-18 after overtime to claim the title.

The Chinese team ranked seventh at the U23 World Cup in 2022 after a quarterfinal defeat to eventual champions Poland. As hosts of the first two editions of the U23 World Cup in 2018 and 2019, they placed sixth and fifth, respectively.

At senior level, the People's Republic of China have performed best in continental competition. They claimed bronze at the 2019 Asia Cup in Changsha with a third place play-off victory over Kazakhstan, and finished third again at the 2022 Asia Cup in Singapore after beating the Philippines in the third place match. At the 2023 Asia Cup, which was also held in Singapore, they defeated the host nation in the quarterfinals but were eliminated at the semifinal stage by Australia [18-17] for the third consecutive Asia Cup. This time they missed out on third place after a 21-13 loss to New Zealand.

The Chinese team finished 17th out of 20 teams at the senior World Cup in 2022 after failing to progress from the pool phase. Previously, the team also failed to advance from the preliminary round at the 2019 and 2016 editions of the senior World Cup, but did reach the last 16 in 2014.

At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the People's Republic of China defeated Belgium and Poland but lost their other five pool games and ended the tournament ranked eighth out of eight teams overall.
